Middlesbrough have given 16-year old Nathan Wood a huge chance in pre-season and he has taken that chance with both hands. His performances have since caught the eye of Premier League giants Manchester United and Manchester City according to The Daily Mirror.

Nathan Wood had only just turned 16 when he joined up with Middlesbrough in pre-season, and has featured for the first team in almost every game since. The central defender has started games away at Rochdale and Hartlepool in recent weeks and has certainly impressed.

His form has generated interest from the very top of the Premier League, with both Manchester City and Manchester United interested in signing the defender. Wood only signed scholarship forms with Middlesbrough in recent months, and after just a number of games in the first-team, Boro now face serious competition to keep him.

However, Wood’s feet are firmly on the ground according to Academy Coach Jonathan Woodgate, who also believes he is showing promise. He said, “He is a good kid, not big time, he will keep his feet on the floor, he keeps asking questions because he wants to get better. He will be a good player.”
