Blackburn Rovers set to miss out on German centre-back

Blackburn Rovers will not be signing Charlton Athletic centre-back Patrick Bauer, Addicks manager Lee Bowyer has revealed.

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer has told the South London Press and Mercury that centre-back Patrick Bauer will not be leaving the club this summer. Blackburn Rovers were interested in signing the defender, but the German looks set to stay after being offered a new contract at The Valley.

Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has been looking at bringing in the 25 year-old this summer as he looks to reinforce his defence ahead of the Championship season.

However, Lee Bowyer has insisted that Bauer will be staying with the League One side. He told the South London Press and Mercury:

“Pat is not going,” said the Addicks boss. “The owner told Blackburn and Bolton what he wants for Pat and they are not going to pay what we are asking.

“Pat knows that. Pat has been offered a new deal and he is thinking about that at the moment.

“Bolton tried to take him as well after Josh (Magennis). They made a deal with Josh and tried to do it with Pat as well.

“But on Saturday I had an email from the owner saying that Pat is staying. He said that Pat is a massive part of our defence and we need to keep him because he improves our chances of promotion.

“I’m over the moon about it. By keeping Pat he is showing what he wants from us this season.”

After this development, Rovers will be forced to look elsewhere for defensive signings after letting youngster Scott Wharton go to Lincoln City on loan.
