Ex-Birmingham City and West Ham player on trial at Hashtag United

According to the official Hashtag United YouTube channel, former Birmingham City full-back Tom Williams is currently on trial with semi pro outfit, Hashtag United. The 38-year-old made his debut for Hashtag United in a 2-0 win away to Romford FC.

Throughout a long career, he’s played for a massive 17 different clubs and he’s on trial with a potential 18th. The Cyprian international has played for the likes of West Ham United, Peterborough United, Colchester United and Bristol City.

He’s made 197 League One appearances during his long and quite unsettled career, scoring four goals and picking up six assists. Williams has also played in the Championship on several occasions as he made 30 appearances and while failing to score, he picked up five assists.

Despite playing for 17 clubs over a 19 year career he’s never won a trophy at any of his clubs which is absolutely remarkable. An other incredible stat is that all but two of his career transfers have been either loan deals or free transfers. The only two fees paid for him were by Swansea City who paid £180K to sign him from Gillingham and Birmingham City who paid just over £475k to sign him from Peterborough United.

During his first trial match at Hashtag United his side beat fellow non-league side Romford FC, who are actually two steps above Hashtag United in the footballing pyramid. Goals from strikers Neil Richmond and Daniel Adjei secured an impressive 2-0 win as Hashtag look ahead to their first ever season at semi professional level.
