Southend United watching Stoke City striker closely

Southend United are watching Stoke City’s Julien Ngoy closely according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon.

The 20-year-old striker started his career in his native Belgium, playing for the likes of Club Brugge and Anderlecht before landing in Stoke’s academy in 2013. He then worked through their youth system and recently broke through into the first team, making six appearances though he is yet to score for them. He has had one loan spell away from Stoke, spending the second half of last season on loan at Walsall where he scored three goals in 13 appearances.

Even with Stoke’s relegation, Ngoy will struggle to break into their first team and needs a loan move to get regular first team football. And Southend are a team that are looking to sign him. They have been closely watching the young striker over the last few months and this move is getting so serious that head coach Chris Powell is now having a look at him before confirming that they want to make a move for the striker.

This could be a great signing for Southend. While Ngoy has not made many competitive appearances in the EFL, Stoke do regard him as a top prospect and someone who could break into their first team. And so with a good run of first team football in Sky Bet League One, Ngoy could prove himself to be the striker Stoke think he is while helping Southend in their attempts to move up the League One table.
