Bolton to sign Charlton striker and pay fee for player for first time in three years

Bolton Wanderers are about to land their first signing with a fee in three years. To many other clubs around the country signing a player for £200k would be insignificant but the Wanderers fans have been through it all the last few years and this is a huge moment for the club and the fans.

Josh Magennis is set to sign, as confirmed by Lee Bowyer this afternoon.

Northern Ireland international Magennis has been steadily improving his career during the last few years, playing a part in the success story of the national team and heading to France in the Euro 2016 tournament. Against all the odds Northern Ireland won their group in qualifying and Magennis, although not a regular played his part.

He began making a name for himself at Kilmarnock in Scotland before getting his move to London and really imposing himself in games. He is without doubt one of the most powerful strikers in the Football League and if Bolton were after a target man then that’s exactly what they have got. Phil Parkinson has been chasing a replacement for Gary Madine since January, having a  £500k bid rejected for Magennis in the window earlier this year.

Lee Bowyer has tonight confirmed a deal will happen and he expects it to go through quickly as well. Bowyer didn’t want to lose the big forward but the chance to move up a division and try his luck in the Championship is something he wouldn’t turn down, and who can blame him? Bolton need new additions in before the start of the season and this is a key addition. Does it mean the end of the pursuit for Charlie Wyke? Who knows, but it wouldn’t be a surprise.
