BREAKING NEWS – Leeds sign Barry Douglas in major coup for club

Leeds United have announced the signing of Scottish international Barry Douglas on a three-year-deal. The clubs instagram have been building up to the announcement for around and hour after Douglas was spotted at Elland Road by fans earlier today. The deal is expected to have cost Leeds just £3 million, a bargain, and a coup.

Why is it a coup? Barry Douglas is the best left-sided full-back in the division, or was last season anyway. He provided more assists than any other player at this level last season, fourteen, a wing-back by trade and an outstanding return for a player not playing in the final third primarily. He also bagged five goals during the season, again, a very good return for a player playing as wing-back.

Leeds have also notched an international, the player now a part of the plans for Scotland despite the likes of Andrew Robertson of Liverpool and Kieran Tierney of Celtic both being involved for the national side. A dead-ball specialist as Leeds well know, a glorious free-kick was whipped into the net of Andy Lonergan last season as Wolves ran out 4-1 winners on their way to the League title.

£3 million doesn’t often get you much these days but Wolves are flying and signing an Atletico Madrid left-wing back has arrived, meaning Barry Douglas, very much a favourite at Wolves was free to go. Wolves were never going to stand in the way of the player who deserves a good move for himself and his young family, all were pictured leaving Elland Road this morning.

Welcome to Leeds, Barry Douglas.
