Norwich City keeper Matthews poised for loan return to Plymouth Argyle

Norwich City goalkeeper Remi Matthews could be set for a return to former club Plymouth Argyle with the two sides having discussed the possibility of a third loan move for the player according to the Plymouth Herald.

The 24-year-old Gorleston-born stopper spent two spells at Home Park last season with Argyle suffering a bizarre goalkeeping crisis.

Matthews made 27 appearances in all competitions for The Pilgrims as they rewrote the form book to chase what had looked like an unlikely Play-Off place in Sky Bet League One.

Plymouth Argyle opted to replace Matthews this season with Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Harry Burgoyne but with the keeper ruled out of action for at least two months with a broken ankle, it has been reported that the club have held initial talks over re-signing Norwich City keeper Matthews.

Matthews looks set to start the season as third choice keeper at Carrow Road meaning that Norwich City head coach Daniel Farke is likely to sanction a further loan move for the player.

The keeper is a product of the Norwich City academy system but is yet to make a single appearance for the club at first team level. Matthews has been regularly loaned out to gain some experience of first team football and the player has spent time with Burton Albion, Doncaster Rovers and Hamilton Academical prior to his latest move to Plymouth Argyle last term.
