Whilst it has worked out fantastically for Ronaldo Vieira at Leeds United, the same couldn’t be said for his twin brother, the equally exotically named Romario.
Ronaldo Vieira seemed to breeze into Leeds United, first appearing as a walk-on in a Whites XI game played against an Isla of Man XI. From then on in it was a step-by-leap progression for the Guinea-Bissau born youngster.
First he left the i2i Academy in York to sign on at Thorp Arch for the Development squad. It was then a short step to a first professional deal at Leeds United, before a leap in to the first team for a cameo role in the last game of the 2015/16 season. Since then he’s gone on to make his England début as both an Under-19 and Under-20.
However, whilst Ronaldo Vieira made his mark, his twin brother Romario wasn’t as lucky as his sibling. He too signed for United, but the trajectory of his career path hasn’t hit such stellar heights.
Last season Romario was a regular for the much-improved Under-23 Development side based at Thorp Arch. Whilst not as eye-catching as his brother, Romario is still a more-than tidy footballer in his own right. However, that wasn’t enough to save him from being released from Elland Road at the end of last season.
As with all players in his position, Romario Vieira is tasked with finding a new club. It seems that he’s taken those first steps by agreeing a trial with Leeds United’s South Yorkshire neighbours Doncaster Rovers.

Doncaster’s squad for yesterday’s friendly against Grimsby Town contained the ubiquitous TRIALIST on the sub’s bench. However, the following tweet clears up any mystery as to who the footballer in question was:
The trialist yesterday was 20 year old Romario Vieira, a defensive midfielder formerly of #lufc #drfc.

All that remains to be seen now is whether the youngster has done enough to earn a deal at Doncaster.
