Leeds United starting XI vs Oxford United

Leeds United head to Oxford United tonight for the fourth pre-season game, and the second for the players who have been picked. There is still no Jamal Blackman which means Lewis Baker will be the only player to have signed this summer and played pre-season football up until at least Thursday night. Bielsa has gone with a young team.

Leeds United XI

GK – Will Huffer – The youngster gets his chance from the start and will be looking to impress. In terms of quality and depth the goalkeeping position is probably our strongest these days. A few youngsters are catching the eye, Huffer is one.

CB – Ronaldo Vieira – Vieira looks like he will play in a back three again tonight with a lack of options in defence at the moment. Hopefully he will get his opportunity in midfield in the next couple of games but something doesn’t seem quite right in my opinion.

CB – Hugo Diaz – The only natural centre-back in the squad tonight and personally I’m glad he’s getting a chance. He did well when called upon at Preston last season and did a job at York City last Thursday. If he’s good enough then use him, that’s why we’ve spent money on the under 23’s.

CB – Oriol Rey – It is a bit of a flip-up with who will actually play where tonight but it’s good to see Oriol Rey get a chance. The talented Spanish holding midfielder has played the centre-back role at Barcelona in the academy. Seems like the viable option.

RWB – Jamie Shackleton – Either Shackleton or Jack Clarke will probably play this role tonight. Both are attacking players so it isn’t ideal. It’s very hard to call who’s actually playing where.

LWB – Tom Pearce – Pearce is probably our brightest prospect and most thought he would be the natural player to step in at left-back this season. The fact Stuart Dallas and Laurens De Bock have both played in the stronger side may suggest otherwise.

CDM – Mateusz Klich – Klich has been the player that most have talked about from this side. He is such a talented and could be one who Bielsa ends up giving a chance to in the other side. Tonight is a big game for him, Oxford aren’t a bad side at all.

CM – Yosuke Ideguchi – He may actually play in a right-wing role and that will allow Shackleton and Clarke to play either side of Sam Dalby because I’m not sure this system will be rigid.

CAM – Jack Clarke – As above, he could play wide with Shackleton on the other side and Lewis Baker through the middle but only time will tell. Can flat and it has to be said he needs to impress tonight if he’s going to force his way into Bielsa’s thinking.

CAM – Lewis Baker – Big game for Baker tonight. He won’t be too impressed he’s playing in this side when the likes of Samu Saiz and Adam Forshaw are in the other, players he would ideally like to be playing alongside. A big game would help his cause.

ST – Sam Dalby – I think this is a big moment for Sam Dalby because he may have edged in front of Ryan Edmondson in the pecking order. That may not seem important but given we only have Kemar Roofe as a fully fit striker it does boast some significance.
