Carlisle boss Sheridan wants ‘four or five’ more signings

Speaking to the News & Star, Carlisle United manager John Sheridan said that in an ideal world, he would sign a further ‘four or five’ players his squad. He has already added seven new faces to the group, but admits circumstances mean he may not get what he wants.

Sheridan oversaw a 1-0 away pre-season friendly victory over AFC Fylde at the weekend, where two of their latest signings, Regan Slater and Jerry Yates, made their debuts. The former Oldham Athletic boss admits he still is not entirely happy with what he has at his disposal, but hints that finances may dictate Carlisle are a little shorter than ideal.

The Cumbrians still have to face Workington and Bradford City in pre-season before getting their Sky Bet League Two campaign underway with a long trip to Exeter City on August 4th. Sheridan is targeting new faces before then,

“If I’m being honest with you, I would like another four or five, I really would.

“But I know what the circumstances are. So, we will see.

“Listen, there are still things I want us to do better. But there were good things from the game (against AFC Fylde).”

Gary Miller, another summer recruit, made his first start in the Fylde clash as well. Lewis Walters, formerly of Nottingham Forest, is a trialist that Sheridan is looking at and he’ll get another chance to impress versus Workington. Another trialist, Dimitros Kotsonis, however won’t have a future at the club and the defender has been allowed to move on.
