Sunderland not interested in Rangers midfielder Docherty

Sunderland manager Jack Ross has dismissed recent reports that the club are looking to sign Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty on loan according to the Daily Record.

The 21-year-old Scot is thought to be available for loan for the early stages of this season with the player not guaranteed regular first team football at Ibrox.

It has been reported that Docherty was set to join Sky Bet League One club Sunderland on a short-term loan deal, however, new Black Cats boss Ross has rubbished the rumours by insisting that the midfielder is not on his radar.

Docherty joined the Hamilton Academical academy system at the age of nine and the youngster went on to graduate through the various age groups to make his senior debut for the club in December 2013. The player went on to make 108 first team appearances for The Accies, scoring eight goals, an excellent record given his young age.

In January, Docherty joined Rangers on a four-and-a-half year deal and the player was handed 14 appearances by his new club in the end of season run-in. The youngster has featured for The Gers in pre-season but manager Steven Gerrard may believe that a temporary spell away from Ibrox could be the most beneficial for him.

As well has his appearances at club level, Docherty has also represented his country at Under-17 and Under-21 levels.
