REACTION: Middlesbrough’s hottest prospect Marcus Tavernier stars for England in Under-19 Euros clash

England Under-19s title defence got off to a shaky start as they drew with Ukraine in the European Championships in Finland.

Middlesbrough’s Marcus Tavernier started the game in midfield and was looking to impress having been subject to plenty of interest this transfer window. The Boro youngster scored England’s only goal of the game inside 10 minutes, and was the Three Lions best player throughout England’s second group game of the tournament.

League One’s Portsmouth are  leading the race to sign the winger on a season-long loan deal, but a host of other clubs are reportedly keen on taking Tavernier too. He did spent the second half of last season out on loan at MK Dons, but it is unclear if the Dons are looking to re-sign the wide-midfielder.

Viewers of England’s game have picked out Tavernier as one to watch, and have taken to social media to express their opinion on the Middlesbrough man.

RMC Sport journalist Sebastien Chapuis gave high praise to the England player wearing number eight.

This England fan picked out Tavernier as one of the stand out players, alongside Liverpool’s Adam Lewis, Crystal Palace’s Nya Kirby and Elliot Embleton of Sunderland.

These two Rangers fans feel that he may be suited to the football being played at the Ibrox, and could even join up with his brother James who currently plays for the club.

With all the speculation surrounding the midfielder, some Boro fans would prefer to keep Tavernier at the club and have him in and around the first team, as opposed to sending him out on loan for a second year running.
