Sky Bet Championship club Bristol City are taking an in-depth look at free agent Niki Maenpaa as they continue their search for another goalkeeper according to Bristol Live.
The 33-year-old Finnish stopper is currently without a club after being released by Brighton & Hove Albion at the end of last season.
Maenpaa has recently joined Bristol City on loan and has travelled with the squad to their training camp in Spain as he looks to impress The Robins’ boss Lee Johnson.
It has now been reported that Maenpaa will be awarded an extension to his trial with manager Johnson wanting a further look at the experienced goalkeeper.
The keeper started his senior career in France with RC Lens where he featured for the club’s reserve side before moving to The Netherlands where he spent three seasons with Den Bosch. Maenpaa then played back-up keeper for Willem II and AZ Alkmaar before the player make 110 appearances for VVV-Venlo.
In summer 2015, Maenpaa joined then-Sky Bet Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion as a free agent. The player went on to make just 11 appearance in all competitions for The Seagulls in his three-year spell at the club.
Bristol City have also been linked with a move for USA international keeper Zack Steffen but a transfer bid is thought to have been rejected by the player’s current club Columbus Crew.
