Fleetwood Town complete loan deal for Sheffield United striker Ched Evans

Fleetwood Town have signed Ched Evans on loan from Sheffield United for the season as confirmed by the club website.

Evans had signed for United from Chesterfield shortly after their promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship. Despite there being plenty of hype behind the move, he failed to break into the first team and only made nine league appearances, scoring no goals. With the Blades looking to challenge for the play-offs after coming close last season, it became apparent there was very little future for him at Bramall Lane.

But Evans has now found a new club after signing a deal with Fleetwood which will keep him there for a year. The Cod Army have been very busy signing new players under new head coach Joey Barton and Evens is their eighth signing of the summer. And with the Lancashire club already having a formidable front line, this could be a great move for the club.

Following the move being completed, Evans’ new head coach Barton said: “When the opportunity came to get Ched on loan – a goalscorer who is proven at League One and the Championship – we knew we had to take it.”

“He is a player with great calibre and adds to our already strong attacking line-up of Paddy Madden, Ash Hunter, Conor McAleny, Bobby Grant, Wes Burns and Ashley Nadesan. We have some really good options in that department of the pitch.”

Evans could make his debut for Fleetwood in the pre-season friendly against Tranmere Rovers on the 21st July.
