Wolves step up in pursuit of Leeds United star

Wolverhampton Wanderers are extremely keen on signing Leeds United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell, according to the Sun (via the Birmingham Mail).

Peacock-Farrell ended the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season as Leeds United’s number one, but the Whites have added Jamal Blackman to their squad to compete with the Northern Irish international.

Blackman has joined the club on a season long loan from Chelsea, and he is expected to be Marcelo Bielsa’s first choice goal keeper for the coming season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are currently preparing for life back in the Premier League following their Sky Bet Championship title winning season, and they see Peacock-Farrell as a potential star for the future.

That being said, the Black Country club have already secured the signing of Portugal international goalkeeper Rui Patricio, so it is highly unlikely that Peacock-Farrell would get anywhere near the starting XI.

But that has not stopped Nuno Santo from showing an interest in Peacock-Farrell, who was rewarded for his excellent performances this season as he earned his first international appearance for Northern Ireland during a 0-0 draw with Panama in a friendly match back in May.

The 21-year-old is highly thought of by Michael O’Neil, who is the Northern Ireland manager, and the pair held talks several years ago as O’Neil convinced Peacock-Farrell to represent the Green and White Army rather than England, the country of his birth.

Leeds United will not want to sell Peacock-Farrell, as he really is seen as a star of the future at Elland Road, but Wolves are stepping up their pursuit.
