Newcastle United in talks with West Brom over striker but no fee agreed

Talks are ongoing between Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion over the signing of Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon, but no fee has been agreed as of yet according to a reliable journalist.

The North East Premier League club have reportedly been interested in the signing of Rondon for a number of weeks now, and Lee Ryder of the Chronicle has confirmed that the two clubs are in talks at the moment.

He spent this morning at Rafa Benitez’s press conference, and he tweeted this about the situation:

Reports suggest that the original deal will be a season long loan, and there will be a clause in the deal that will allow Newcastle United to purchase Rondon on a permanent deal following the conclusion of the 2018/19 season.

West Brom had been preparing for the departure of Salomon Rondon ever since the club was relegated from the Premier League last season.

The 2017/18 campaign was an extremely disappointing one for the Baggies, but new manager Darren Moore has added a new sense of hope at the Hawthorns this summer, and they are among the early favourites to return to the top flight at the first time of asking.

Jonny Evans and Ben Foster have already left the club, while the likes of Matt Phillips, Nacer Chadli and Jay Rodriguez are all expected to depart in the coming weeks, however none of them are said to be in talks with a club.

However, it seems that Rondon is the closest to an exit, as talks continue between Newcastle United and West Brom.
