West Brom set to raid arch rivals Wolves for defender

West Bromwich Albion are looking to the arch rivals for their next signing, as they aim to secure the signature of Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Danny Batth according to the Daily Mail.

Batth is currently the club captain at Molineux, but did not play a huge role in their Sky Bet Championship title winning season, playing just nine times in the league.

And with Wolves currently preparing for life back in the top flight of English football, Batth could be set to move on as he looks to revitalise his career and play as much first team football as possible.

The 27-year-old has been at Wolverhampton Wanderers since joining the club’s academy all the way back in 2000, and he made his first professional appearance back in 2009. He has since made just shy of 200 appearances for the Black Country club.

Because of his history with Wolves, it remains unclear whether or not he would be willing to move to their arch rivals West Brom, who will be playing in the league below Wolves next season following their relegation from the Premier League.

The Baggies are still on the lookout for defenders this summer. Jonny Evans has left to join Leicester City, while Gareth Macauley is currently a free agent after his contract expired at the Hawthorns. Craig Dawson is also expected to leave the club this summer after handing in a transfer request, with West Ham United the favourites to sign him.

West Brom have announced the signing of Kyle Bartley today, and Batth could be the perfect defensive partner for the former Swansea City man.
