Swansea City forward completes La Liga switch

Sky Bet Championship side Swansea City have today announced that striker Borja has departed on loan to sign for Alaves. The forward, full name Borja Baston, spent last season in La Liga also, when on loan with Malaga, who would be relegated.

The 25-year-old is surplus to requirements at the Liberty Stadium. Since making the move from Atletico Madrid in 2016 for a fee believed to be in the region of £15million, he has only started four league matches. Whilst at Malaga last season, he netted twice. Borja has probably kicked his last ball for Swansea City.

Swansea have changed their manager regularly in recent times, with Graham Potter the latest man to be at the helm. He clearly did not see the Spaniard as part of his plans as they look to seal an instant return into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Madrid-born player has spent the vast majority of his playing career out on loan. Whilst with Atleti, he would head away for temporary stints with Murcia, Huesca, Deportivo La Coruna, Real Zaragoza and Eibar. The last two of those were most successful, netting 23 and 18 league goals respectively in each of those campaigns.

The last time he pulled on the Swansea jersey was during the 1-0 home success over Everton in May 2017. He has managed to find the back of the net for the club, but only once. This came in one of his first matches, which was a 3-2 defeat versus Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Swansea fans won’t necessarily be too disappointed to see him move on again.
