FACTFILE – Leeds United’s latest signing Jamal Blackman

Leeds United have signed Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman on a season long loan. This was announced just a few minutes ago on the official Leeds United twitter page. But who exactly is he?

The Englishman spent all of last season on loan at Sheffield United. He made 33 appearances for the Blades, including both of Sheffield United’s 2-1 wins over Leeds United and their 4-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. Blackman conceded just 35 goals all season and kept a impressive ten clean sheets.

The 24-year-old is yet to play for Chelsea’s first team but he did spend a long time at League One Wycombe Wanderers. He made 52 appearances for them. Conceding just 61 goals and keeping 17 clean sheets. He even had a loan spell out in Sweden at Ostersunds FK. He made just 12 appearances for the club. During this time he conceded 22 goals and kept three clean sheets.

Blackman has made several appearances for the Chelsea U23’s. In 44 appearances, he’s only conceded 59 goals and kept 14 clean sheets. He’s won one trophy in his time as footballer and that game at Chelsea. He won the U21 Premier League back in 2014

Jamal Blackman is only 24 years of age and has a very bright future ahead of him. After impressing at both Wycombe Wanderers and Sheffield United, he’ll be hoping to carry on this great form at Leeds United. After Felix Wiedweld left the club following a shocking season at Elland Road, Leeds have been looking for a new first choice goalkeeper. It seems they’ve finally found their man.
