Leeds set to announce Chelsea keeper’s arrival today

Leeds United will unveil their latest signing, Jamal Blackman, today after a medical was passed over the weekend, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The task of finding a number one at Elland Road has proved a difficult job to achieve for new Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa. However, the Whites are due to formally announce the Chelsea shot-stopper’s season-long loan today according to reports.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that the terms of the 24-year-old’s loan move from Stamford Bridge to Elland Road were finalised on Thursday and will train at Thorp Arch today after passing a medical over the weekend. It also states that Blackman is preparing to feature in 45 minutes of the Whites’ first pre-season friendly at Forest Green Rovers tomorrow night.

Blackman first came as a surprise entry for a move to Elland Road after he appeared in photographs at Leeds’ Thorp Arch training centre. Angus Gunn and David Stockdale were the front-runners for the number one spot. However, a loan bid for Birmingham City’s Stockdale was rejected and Gunn made a £10m move from Manchester City to Southampton, leaving United to continue their search elsewhere.

Having made 31 Sky Bet Championship appearances last season on-loan at Sheffield United as they achieved a top-half finish, the young shot-stopper proved his high standard in England’s second-tier.

If Blackman is to be announced later today, he will become the second Chelsea academy product to join the Whites in this window, following in the footsteps of midfielder Lewis Baker’s loan move last month.
