Early Championship promotion odds – Who are the favourites?

We’re well into a very exciting transfer window now and the new season is nearly upon us. Who are the favourites to win promotion to the Premier League this season?

Last season in the Championship, Wolverhampton went up as Champions, Cardiff City as runners up and Fulham as play-off winners. But what were their odds at this point last year?

Third place and play-off winners Fulham were the fifth favourites at this points with odds of 7/2. Runners up Cardiff City were third favourites, just being Middlesbrough, with odds of 13/8. Finally, the Championship champions, Wolverhampton were the outright favourites with odds of 8/11.

This season, the pre-season outright favourites are currently Stoke City with odds of 13/8. Stoke City have recently sold star man Xherdan Shaqiri and are trying hard to keep hold onto England goalkeeper Jack Buland. These two players are Stoke City’s two star men. Should they lose their number one as well as Shaqiri they could see their odds start to drift out.

The second favourites are West Brom with odds of 5/2. This comes as no surprise as they’ve managed to fend off clubs coming in for their star players such as Solomon Rondon and Craig Dawson. There’s still time for this to change but, as it stands, West Brom are looking very strong this season.

Finally, the third favourites are both Middlesbrough are Swansea City. These two clubs are currently at 3/1 to win promotion which is no surprise. Both clubs have very strong Championship squads that are more than capable of winning promotion.

The Championship looks as exciting as ever with so many big teams being in there. It’s certainly a league to keep an eye on even if you don’t support a team playing in it. It’s almost impossible to call this season, literally anything could happen.
