OPINION: Why Chelsea midfielder would be a perfect signing for Derby Country

It has been widely reported that Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is set to complete a loan move to Derby County for the duration of next season.

The 19 year old excelled during his loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem last campaign, and Frank Lampard looks set to use his Chelsea contacts in order to land the young prospect.

He was in fine form for the Dutch side as he netted 14 goals and registered 10 assists in 38 appearances.

It was his first season in professional football and his performances put a number of Football League clubs on red alert.

However, the Rams look set to sign Mount once the youngster signs a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

Pride Park is the perfect destination for the midfielder to continue his development under the watchful eye of former Blues great Frank Lampard.

Derby are expected to be challenging at the top half of the table once more and Mount will provide Lampard with an attacking midfield option to play behind Matej Vydra or Cameron Jerome.

The Rams have a squad that has a nice blend of youthful exuberance and experience, and the Chelsea prospect could learn from some of the older heads in the Derby changing room.

Players such as Curtis Davies and Tom Huddlestone have played the majority of their career in the top flight and will be on hand to pass on their insight on playing in the Premier League.

Mount will have also worked with assistant manager Jody Morris, during the coach’s time in London, so it would be beneficial for the England U20 to have a familiar face at the club.

He is a player with undoubted talent, and a move to Derbyshire would get him some vital first team opportunities and a shrewd understanding of the English game.
