Hull City want to sign League One defender next week

Hull City are still keen on signing Scunthorpe United left-back Conor Townsend, according to Hull Live.

The Tigers’ boss, Nigel Adkins, wants to get some more signings done next week and has targeted moves for Sheffield United goalkeeper George Long and Scunthorpe’s Conor Townsend.

Townsend could be set for a return to his boyhood club should Hull match his price tag from Scunthorpe. He left the Tigers in January 2016 to join the Iron for more first-team opportunities but could now find himself back with Hull.

He joined their academy at the age of 8 and rose through the youth ranks. Townsend has only ever played for Hull’s first-team once in a League Cup tie against Leyton Orient in August 2013. Nevertheless, he has gained plenty of playing time during loan spells at Grimsby Town, Chesterfield, Carlisle United and Dundee United.

The 24-year-old impressed for the Iron in League One last season and has shown his ability from set pieces and free-kicks. Hull fans who keep an eye on their youth sides will know all about Townsend from his time with the Tigers and what he could offer to them.

Hull are looking for more reinforcements to their squad ahead of the upcoming season. They have signed Eric Lichaj, Jordy de Wijs, Reece Burke and David Milinkovic so far in this transfer window. The potential signing of Conor Townsend would provide more competition and depth to Stephen Kingsley in the left-back position.

The Tigers are still obviously looking for a new goalkeeper with a move for George Long looking likely. Adkins is also keen to bring in another winger and a striker.
