https://twitter.com/NathanSCFC/status/1017862724687204353After relegation to the Championship, it was inevitable that Swiss superstar Xherdan Shaqiri would depart the Bet365 Stadium this summer. His move to Liverpool has now been confirmed and has left Potters fans disappointed.
The 26 year old joined the club in 2015 and was signed by Mark Hughes from Italian giants Inter Milan.
He has made 84 appearances in the Premier League for the Potters, scoring 15 goals for the club.
He joined Stoke for a club record fee of £12m, but his time in the Potteries has now come to an end following his move to Merseyside.
Liverpool have triggered the £13.5m release clause in Shaqiri’s contract and the move will see the winger play his football at Anfield next season.
Shaqiri was Stokes’s top goalscorer last season, as he netted on 8 occasions, but his goals were not enough to help the club prolong their stay in the top flight.
He has been away on International duty this summer, as he was named in Switzerland’s 23 man squad for the World Cup Finals.
The winger netted a 90th minute winner against Serbia to help Switzerland qualify for the knockout stages, but they were defeated by Sweden in the round of 16.
Liverpool will have a lot of fixtures to play next season, and the signing of Shaqiri will provide Jurgen Klopp with some much needed squad depth.
The departure of Shaqiri will leave a big void in the Stoke City squad and gives Garry Rowett a tough job of replacing him this summer.
Here are what the Stoke fans had to say after the sale of their Swiss playmaker:
Shaqiri its been a pleasure.

Shaqiri gave me some great memories.

Shaqiri the most technically gifted player I’ve seen in a Stoke shirt, shame he wasn’t as consistent as we’d have liked but a fantastic player when he’s on it, I hope for his sake Klopp can turn him into a world beater. #SCFC #Shaqiri

So the last “get you out of your seat” player departs. Inconsistent yes, but a key part of some of the best 6 months or so of football we’ve seen in an age. He’ll move on, we’ll move on and our paths will cross again #SCFC
