Match Preview – Accrington Stanley vs Huddersfield Town

Tomorrow afternoon, League One Accrington Stanley are going up against Premier League Huddersfield Town. Both sides are coming into their pre-seasons off the back of very successful domestic campaigns.

This is Accrington Stanley’s first pre-season friendly of the season and, as pre-season friendlies go, it doesn’t get that much more difficult than in the form of Premier League outfit, Huddersfield Town.

Accrington Stanley will be full of confidence following their promotion to League One. Stanley very convincingly won the League Two title last season and are now getting ready for their first ever season in the English third tier.

Following their promotion, star defender Jimmy Dunne has returned to his parent club Burnley after his loan at Accrington expired. Their number one goalkeeper Aaron Chapman has also left the club for League One Peterborough on a free transfer. Chapman played in all but one of Accrington’s league games last season, conceding just 46 and keeping a remarkable 18 clean sheets.

This is Huddersfield Town’s second pre-season friendly of the season. Their first one came last Tuesday evening where they ran riot against League Two Bury, winning 4-0. The likes of Steve Mounie, Alex Pritchard and Christopher Schindler all featured in the game with Huddersfield fielding a near full strength side in both halves of the match.

These sides have only ever met twice in their histories. Huddersfield Town were the victors on both occasions. The first win came in a 3-2 victory at the Wham Stadium back in 2007 and the second came in a 1-0 victory back in 2017, also, at the Wham Stadium.
