Blackburn enquire about League One defender

According to HITC, Blackburn Rovers have made an enquiry for Burton Albion defender Kyle McFadzean.

Tony Mowbray is keen to bring in signings at Ewood Park in order to strengthen his newly-promoted Sky Bet Championship side, and reports are linking Rovers with the 31-year-old centre-half.

The veteran defender has made over 300 appearances during his career, spanning five clubs and has been an ever-present figure in the Burton Albion team since his arrival in 2016. McFadzean has made 73 appearances for the Brewers in the league, proving his Sky Bet Championship pedigree in helping the team defy the odds of surviving relegation in the 2016/17 campaign.

Burton met their untimely demise last season and now face an important task of stabilizing themselves in Sky Bet League One or risk serious downfall. With Burton’s lack of star power during their Sky Bet Championship run, it seemed as if the Brewers were delaying the inevitable when they achieved safety, but to their credit, they had earned it through the desire of players like McFadzean.

McFadzean has proven to be a vital cog in Nigel Clough’s machine and despite his age, Mowbray feels the defender still has something to offer in the second tier of English football.

Mowbray may see McFadzean as a like-for-like replacement for the experienced Elliott Ward, who was released after two years at the club.

Blackburn will be keen to avoid dragging the transfer out and will hope McFadzean can join Joe Rothwell, Jacob Davenport and Sam Durant in joining the ranks at Ewood Park.
