West Bromwich Albion are not interested in signing Leeds United and Sweden defender Pontus Jansson, according to a report from the Express and Star.
Reports in previous days had suggested that the Baggies were keen to reunite Jansson with Kyle Bartley after the two shared a successful season together at Leeds United during the 2016/17 campaign.
Bartley looks set to complete his move to West Brom in the coming days, but it appears that Pontus Jansson will not be joining him.
The future of Jansson is a touchy subject at Elland Road at the moment, with no-one exactly sure what will happen.
His native Sweden were knocked out of the FIFA World Cup last Saturday (July 7) and he was expected to sit down and discuss his future upon his return to England.
In previous weeks, he has been linked with a move to the likes of Premier League side Southampton, but nothing seems to have come of that.
The news that West Brom are not interested in signing Pontus Jansson will be excellent to hear for Leeds United supporters, who are becoming increasingly frustrated with the club’s lack of activity so far in the transfer window.
Selling the club’s key players just is not an option for the Yorkshire club as they look to improve on last season’s 13th place finish in the Sky Bet Championship.
However, there is still a very real interest from Sky Bet Championship new boys West Brom in Kemar Roofe, who was Leeds United’s top goal scorer last season.
