Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri is set to sign for Liverpool today, according to the Liverpool Echo. Here are three options they could pursue to replace him-
Harry Wilson, Liverpool- The Potters have been linked with a move for the 21-year-old winger, as reported by The72 yesterday. The Wales international has recently signed a new five-year-deal at Liverpool and is highly-rated by the Premier League giants. However, he could leave them again on loan for next season to gain more first-team experience. Wilson spent the latter part of the last campaign on loan at Hull City and scored 7 goals in 14 games for them in the Championship.
Matt Ritchie, Newcastle United- Stoke City have been linked with a move for the experienced winger throughout this transfer window. The 28-year-old could drop back down into the Championship if Newcastle re-sign Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace. Ritchie has won the second tier title twice before in his career, the first time with AFC Bournemouth in 2015 and secondly with Newcastle in 2017. Therefore, he knows what it takes to get out of this league.
Sheyi Ojo, Liverpool- He is another Liverpool winger who Stoke could potentially bring in to replace Shaqiri. The 21-year-old, who has represented England at all youth levels from Under-16 to Under-21 so far in his career, is an option for Gary Rowett. Ojo has played 13 games for Liverpool’s first-team and has also had loan spells at Wigan Athletic, Wolves and most recently Fulham. He played 24 games for the Cottagers last season under Slavisa Jokanovic and was part of their side who won promotion to the Premier League.
