Speaking in a Twitter conversation earlier today, Phil Hay, the chief football writer for the Yorkshire Evening Post, has revealed that it is likely that Jamal Blackman will join Leeds United this summer. Specifically, he says he is ‘expecting’ the Chelsea stopper to complete a move to Elland Road.
Leeds fans have been growing forever frustrated at the lack of incomings at the club following the surprising appointment of Marcelo Bielsa as head coach. Lewis Baker has already joined on loan from Chelsea, and Blackman is set to become the second new face arriving from Stamford Bridge in the coming days.
Blackman, aged 24, has first hand experience of the Sky Bet Championship already. He impressed in a loan spell at Sheffield United last season. He started 31 of their 46 league encounters, but is soon poised to complete his fifth loan move of his career. He has also spent time at Middlesbrough, Ostersunds and Wycombe Wanderers.
Leeds have been on the lookout for a new goalie this summer. This was a problem area for the club last season and are certainly keen to improve upon that situation. David Stockdale of Birmingham City has been heavily linked with a move to the club for several weeks now. He is on the transfer list at St Andrews, having been told by ex-Leeds boss Garry Monk that he is free to leave the Blues. Nevertheless, Blackman is the man that looks set to get a hand on the number one jersey at Leeds United for next season at least.
