Could Leeds United be set to sign their new Luciano Becchio?

Leeds United have had a rather fruitless transfer window thus far, and it’s no secret that the Whites have struggled.

Some positive news that has started to come out of Elland Road though is with a deal for Matej Vydra dead, the club are actively pursuing other options. One striker who Leeds United have been linked with making a move for has been Swansea City forward Oliver McBurnie,  who is now 6/4 to join Leeds United with SkyBet.

Leeds United have been looking for a prolific forward since the departure of Chris Wood to Burnley and if they were to sign McBurnie, he could show striking similarities to ex-Leeds forward Luciano Becchio.

Becchio played during one of Leeds’ best and most enjoyable spells when the club gained promotion from League One to the Championship and in his first season in the Championship, he managed to score 20 goals in 44 games for the Whites and took up the goalscoring reigns after Jermaine Beckford left Elland Road, despite contributing 17 goals in the previous season alongside Beckford’s 27 goals.

McBurnie, much like Becchio could be Leeds United’s answer to a striker with life after Chris Wood hitting home after a tough year last season, but also, he could work incredibly well alongside Kodjia or Hugill if Leeds opt to bring one of the other strikers they’ve been linked with to Elland Road.

Given the fact that Scottish international McBurnie is roughly a similar height to Becchio and offers a similar aerial presence, he could be fantastic in terms of goals, but also in assisting his teammates much like Becchio was.

Additionally, his height and physical presence would mean that the striker could hold Leeds United’s forward line with Saiz and Roofe playing off him, giving the Whites’ team more of a chance to score goals from other positions.

Oliver McBurnie would be a great signing for Leeds United – and the club should try to make sure a deal is done in the coming days, if they want to secure a quality striker ahead of next season without being charged a highly inflated transfer fee.

Although the latest news is that McBurnie has signed a new contract with Swansea City, it still doesn’t rule out him making a move to Leeds United, it just makes a deal much more difficult.
