Derby County out of the running for highly-rated Chelsea youngster

Derby County have cooled their interest in highly-rated 20-year-old Chelsea full-back Jay Dasilva after the youngster was linked with a move to Pride Park last month.

Frank Lampard has been utilising his contacts at Chelsea during this window, with the club currently linked with exciting attacking midfielder Mason Mount on a season-long loan deal and this is likely where the links between Derby and Jay Dasilva begun.

Last month it was reported that two Premier League clubs and a handful of Championship outfits were looking at bringing the 20-year-old in on loan after the transfer window officially opened, although interest lately has certainly cooled.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Derby are now looking at other options and have ‘gone off’ the idea of bringing Dasilva into the club this summer.

Dasilva has been highly rated in the Chelsea youth setup for some years now, regularly compared to Chelsea legend Ashley Cole, but broke into the public eye last season out on loan at Charlton.

The Luton-born defender spent the second half of the 2016/17 season with the Addicks but was once again brought on loan last season, where he established himself as a first-team regular, making 38 appearances as Charlton reached the play-off semi-finals.

He impressed so much that Dasilva was awarded the club’s young player of the year award, a testament to the outstanding season the athletic full-back enjoyed.

It is still likely that Dasilva will step up to the Championship on loan this season, but Derby is looking less and less likely to be his destination.
