Leeds United, “Looking more and more” likely that goalkeeper will sign for Leeds United

“Looking more and more” likely that goalkeeper will sign for Leeds United

This morning, Stuart Brennan of the Manchester Evening News has confirmed that Southampton has signed Manchester City goalkeeper Angus Gunn on a deal worth £10m.

Journalist Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post has responded to Brennan’s tweet, suggesting as a result of the Gunn transfer that it’s looking increasingly likely Leeds United are going to bring Jamal Blackman to Elland Road.

Gunn had been heavily linked with a move to Leeds United during this transfer window and with Marcelo Bielsa taking over at the West-Yorkshire club, many fans had hoped they’d find it a walk in the park getting loan deals from  Guardiola’s City due to the Spaniard’s strong relationship with Leeds boss Bielsa.

Blackman now seems the most likely goalkeeping candidate to sign for Leeds United in this transfer window. The goalkeeper looks set to leave Chelsea on loan again for this upcoming season after spending last year with Sheffield United in the Championship, and naturally, he will want to continue his progression with another big side in the division.

Leeds United will most likely be able to meet his wage demands and with Chelsea already loaning the club Lewis Baker, it will be easy for scouts from the Premier League club to watch Blackman’s progression alongside his fellow teammate.

In truth, Blackman may prove to be a better signing than Gunn and is likely to be a far cheaper option than Gunn would have been – the only issue is that Leeds wouldn’t be bringing the ‘keeper in on a permanent deal, but if he can help them towards promotion, the fans won’t mind about that so much.
