Brentford edge victory against Boreham Wood in pre-season opener

Brentford were able to edge a 2-1 win victory over Boreham Wood in their pre-season opener.

The Bees were hoping to get their pre-season off to a good start to show the fans that they can break into the Sky Bet Championship play-offs like they have threatened to do over the last few years. And while they may be disappointed not to dispatch a non-league side with a bigger win, they’ll be happy to leave Hertfordshire with the win.

But while Brentford would get the win, they were given a shock when Boreham Wood took the lead. Morgan Ferrier broke into the box for The Wood and Reece Cole ended up taking him down and giving away a penalty. Ferrier stepped up and would score one of the cockiest penalties you’ll see all year, chipping the ball as Jack Bonham dived in the other direction.

The Bees did struggle to break through a tough Boreham Wood defence but eventually did so before the end of the first half. Ryan Woods found Ollie Watkins with a fantastic cross field pass and the former Exeter City forward as able to break into the box and score the equaliser.

In the second half it was all change as everyone but Bonham was substituted. And this seemed to work as Brentford would get the winner. Another great move saw Chiedozie Ogbene slide the ball into Lewis MacLeod in space where he was able to hit the ball into the bottom corner.

Brentford’s next friendly will be against Karlsruher on the 14th July.
