Joey Barton started his reign as Fleetwood Town head coach with a big 4-0 win over Salford City.

While Fleetwood did have a behind closed doors match against rivals Southport FC earlier in the week, this was the first official match that Barton would take control of following his appointment as head coach earlier in the summer. And he will be delighted to get off to such a great start.

Fleetwood started the game well and it always looked like they would get the win against a side famous due to the Class of 92 documentary. It did take a bit longer than expected to get the lead but they got it when Paddy Madden was able to convert after a corner from Jason Holt.

In the second half Fleetwood made a few changes and from there, they dominated until they got the confident win they were looking for. The second goal came when Conor McAleny was played through with a defence splitting pass and finished the move off with ease. Just ten minutes after, it was 3-0 as Ashley Nadesan was able to blast the ball home after finding some space. And finally the game was all wrapped up when Nadesan was able to make a key interception before being able to pass to Harrison Biggins who was able to make it 4-0.

Fleetwood will now travel to Budapest for their pre-season training camp. During that trip they will play STK Fluminense Samorin with that game set to take place on the 10th July.
