Birmingham City eager to sign Celtic teenager

Hoops striker Denny Johnstone has reportedly been training with Championship club Birmingham City as reported by the Birmingham Mail.

19-year-old striker played a part in a practice game at Wat Hills following the cancellation of the scheduled friendly with Mansfield Town.

The game was advised to be cancelled due to concerns from Police over intelligence that suggested trouble could stir between both sets of fans.

Johnstone is currently out of contract at Celtic and has been spending the past week in training with the Blues,  He came to the attention of the club after a tip from development coach Alan Thompson.

Thompson was a former first-team coach at Celtic and has given the Dumfries-born lad rave reviews after seeing his development close up.

If Johnstone impresses first team boss Lee Clark enough to offer him a contract then Birmingham would have to pay a compensation fee for his services or else Celtic may take the deal to a tribunal.
