Fleetwood Town are looking at Oldham Athletic and Sunderland Tommy Spurr from Preston North End, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
Joey Barton is looking to strengthen his backline with the addition of left-back Tommy Spurr from Preston North End.
Alan Nixon tweeted: “Fleetwood. In Tommy Spurr race. Late and poss decisive move. Loan from Preston.”
Spurr would be a smart piece of business from Sunderland and even more so if Oldham Athletic and Fleetwood Town swoop in for him. He’s a composed and confident defender who is capable of playing at Championship level.
About Tommy Spurr –
Spurr was born in Leeds, and the 28-year-old began his career at Sheffield Wednesday, making over 200 appearances in six years period, before a spell at Doncaster Rovers where he was a League One title winner.
He signed for Blackburn in 2013, making over 80 appearances, but turned down the offer of a new deal at Ewood Park to sign on the dotted line for Preston North End.
The defender came to Deepdale with Championship experience. Last season, Spurr only managed to make five appearances all campaign.
Although, Preston lost left-back Greg Cunningham to Premiership side Cardiff City last week for a fee in the region of £4m, they have replaced him with Andrew Hughes who can operate in the centre of defence as well as his natural left-back position, Preston North End boss Alex Neil is known to be very keen on flexible players. This seems to have left the door open for Tommy Spurr to leave Preston North End.
