Peterborough United’s chairman, Darragh MacAnthony has tweeted to suggest that the club are in talks with a ‘big big Championship club’ over the potential transfer of the highly talented Marcus Maddison.

Maddison has been linked with both a move to Leeds United and Nottingham Forest in the past and its highly possible that the club which MacAnthony is suggesting is speaking to the League One player could be one of those teams – although it’s hard to establish who they club is from the ambiguity of the tweet.

Nottingham Forest were supposedly “ruled out of the running” in the race for Marcus Maddison according to the Nottingham Post as Peterborough United’s director of football Barry Fry suggested that the East Midlands side were not in the running however with other teams thought to be interested in the midfielder, Nottingham Forest may not be his future destination, after all.

Leeds United would be a club which you’d expect to be chasing Maddison, especially with the fact that Marcelo Bielsa has taken over at Elland Road and the Argentinian is a huge fan of open, attacking, expansive football. It’s likely that Maddison is still on Leeds United’s radar and with the arrival of the Argentinian and a healthy budget, Leeds could easily convince Maddison to join up at Elland Road and could offer the financial incentives to Peterborough to feel that they could let the attacker leave London Road.

Marcus Maddison is hot property and his future destination remains secret but it seems he won’t be sticking with Peterborough United into next season, by looking at MacAnthony’s tweet.
