Oldham Athletic, Bury, AFC Wimbledon and Cambridge United are chasing Bristol City winger Jonny Smith, according to Bristol Post.

AFC Wimbledon, Bury, Cambridge United and Oldham Athletic have all been linked with exciting winger Jonny Smith on loan next season as they look to strengthen their squads.

The 20-year-old got his first full season of first team football under his belt as he spent last season on loan at National League side AFC Fylde, he caught the eye with 10 goals and nine assists in 48 appearances and now is ready for a step up.

Jonny Smith signed for Bristol City ahead of the 2016/17 season from Wrexham, after being dubbed “The new Gareth Bale”.

At the start of the 2016/17 season Jonny spent time on loan with League Two Cheltenham Town, making 5 appearances. After his return to City he featured as a regular member of the Under-23 squad, continuing his progression.

A step up to League One or League Two would be the logical step in his development and will give him a chance to earn some much needed Football League experience.

Smith is not currently part of Lee Johnson’s first team plans at present so the club are willing to loan him out again this summer.

Oldham could be favourites to land Jonny Smith, as Bristol City boss Lee Johnson started his managerial career at Latics. But, the winger may decide to try League One football instead.

City’s head coach feels that Jonny Smith would benefit by going out on loan again next season to a Football League side to continue his development before he comes back to challenge for a first-team spot at Ashton Gate in the future.
