Southampton full-back could be a target of Bristol City

Southampton left-back Sam McQueen could be set for a move to Sky Bet Championship club Bristol City according to Bristol Live.

The 23-year-old defender made just seven appearances for his hometown club this season and his long term future at St Mary’s Stadium is very much in the air.

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson is thought to be an admirer of the player and a move to Ashton Gate for McQueen could be on the horizon with the full-back being pictured on a social media account of The Robins midfielder Josh Brownhill.

McQueen is under contract at Southampton until summer 2021 but the youngster is at an age where he must be playing regular first team football. A possible move from his boyhood club to Bristol City could offer him greater playing opportunities and may appeal to McQueen.

The full-back signed for Southampton as an eight-year-old and made his senior debut for the club in a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland in the FA Cup Fifth Round in 2014. Just 27 further senior outings have followed while the player spent the second half of the 2015/2016 season on loan at Sky Bet League One club Southend United.

Bristol City are in search of competition for the left-back position with Icelandic ace Hordur Magnusson set to leave the club next week.
