Three players Championship new boys Wigan Athletic should sign

Wigan Athletic successfully secured an instant return to the Championship as they were crowned champions of League One last season. Here are three players they could sign to prolong their Championship stay this time around:

Jorge Grant, Nottingham Forest – Grant has more than proved himself on loan at Notts County last season as he notched 16 goals and 6 assists from midfield. The 23 year old appears to be out of favour with Forest boss Aitor Karanka and a permanent move away from the City Ground could kick start his career in the second tier. He has made 17 appearances for the Reds in the Championship, so has experience of playing in the division. The Latics wouldn’t have to break the bank for Grant and would be a smart signing for Paul Cook’s side.

Nedum Onuoha, Queens Park Rangers – With Dan Burn being targeted by Aston Villa, Wigan should move quickly to sign his replacement if he does leave. The former QPR captain can be a leader in the Latics changing room and fill the void vacated by the giant defender. He carries a wealth of Championship and Premier League experience and that could be vital next season as they look to avoid the drop.

Christian Walton, Brighton & Hove Albion  –  Walton was Wigan’s number one as they lifted the League One crown. He was on loan from the Seagulls last campaign, but Paul Cook should do everything he can to sign him on a permanent deal. The 22 year old made 31 appearances for the club last campaign and would be a brilliant signing this summer.
