Ipswich Town hold advantage over Leeds United in pursuit of League One midfielder

Ipswich Town have today joined the race to sign Shrewsbury Town midfielder Jon Nolan, and have since emerged as the favourites to secure his signature.

The print edition of The Sun report that the Tractor Boys are interested in signing Nolan, who helped Shrewsbury finish third in the Sky Bet League One season in the 2017/18 campaign.

However, the Shrews were beaten 2-1 by Rotherham United in the Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final, and were condemned to another season of third tier football.

To make matters worse for the Shropshire club, manager Paul Hurst left the club to became the new manager of Ipswich Town, and that is why the East Anglia side hold the advantage.

Hurst and Nolan worked together last season at Shrewsbury Town, and they both know what each other are capable of.

This makes Ipswich Town favourites to secure the signature of Nolan, who was first linked with a move to Leeds United back in March.

Although there have not been many reports linking Leeds and Jon Nolan since then, he is still believed to be a target for the Elland Road club, who appointed Argentinian manager Marcelo Bielsa as their new boss earlier this week.

Jon Nolan was the standout player for Shrewsbury Town last season as they defied all odds to mount a challenge for promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.
