According to the Stoke Sentinel, Cardiff City winger Junior Hoilett is a transfer target for Stoke City. The Canadian international is out of contract with the promoted Bluebirds, and the fact he hasn’t yet penned an extension has interested Gary Rowett.

The 28-year-old previously played under Neil Warnock during their time together at Queens Park Rangers. However, recently speaking with the BBC, Warnock has revealed that there is a ‘slight problem’ regarding the conversations they are having with Hoilett over agreeing an extension. Cardiff have produced a ‘very good offer’ to try and keep the former Blackburn Rovers youngster in the Welsh capital, but Stoke are clearly very keen.

It therefore remains to be seen if the player will accept the offer of a two-year extension to stay at the Cardiff City Stadium. Given the impact he has made at this level, this has led to Rowett expressing a desire to snap him up at the bet365 Stadium. Stoke are one of the early pre-season favourites for promotion, with the former Derby boss expected to sign several new faces this summer, after being handed a strong budget to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Interesting, Cardiff have already signed up Josh Murphy from Norwich City this summer for a fee of £11million. He is a left winger, which is often the role Hoilett employs in Warnock’s starting eleven as well. Therefore, it could be that he does indeed move on this summer, with Stoke believed to be the frontrunners in this particular moment in time.
