Leeds United could turn to Steve Bruce – Bielsa deal stumbling over ‘control concerns’

The Mirror have released an article suggesting that the reason why a deal to take Marcelo Bielsa to Leeds United has taken so long is due to concerns from the Argentinian about having full ‘control of the club’.

Bielsa wants to have the run of the mill in terms of player recruitment, playing style and generally the way in which Leeds United will operate on the pitch – which is something that has become an alien concept in modern football with Sporting Directors such as Victor Orta often dictating transfer deals and signings for clubs.

The Mirror have additionally suggested that if a deal is to fall to pieces between Bielsa and Leeds United that the West Yorkshire club could opt to move for Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce as a new option for the vacant managerial role.

News had begun to circulate last night that Marcelo Bielsa had been granted a work permit that would see him move to Elland Road to take over at Leeds whilst over the last 13 days, Leeds United fans have been desperate to see the Argentine simply settle on a deal with the West Yorkshire club.

Then, earlier, it appeared that the potential manager’s future was partly in his brother’s hands as journalist Guillem Balague tweeted suggesting that Bielsa’s brother, a lawyer, was the one who was settling the final negotiations between the Argentinian and the West-Yorkshire club.

Leeds United fans will be hoping that a deal can be pushed over the line, as if the club turn to Steve Bruce, there’s going to be a lot of disappointed Leeds United fans.
