Sheffield Wednesday set sights on loan deal for Benfica striker

Sheffield Wednesday are targeting a move for Benfica striker João Amarel, as per a report by the Yorkshire Post.

The 26-year-old only joined Benfica last month but could leave them this season on loan. The Owls are keen to add some reinforcements to their squad this summer and see Amarel as an ideal acquisition.

Amarel impressed last season for Vitória in the Primeira Liga and scored 9 goals. This earned him a move to Portuguese giants Benfica but a move to England could be in the pipeline for him over the coming weeks.

He has spent his whole career playing in Portugal. He stated out at Candal and had since had stints at Padroense, Mirandela, Pedras Rubras and Vitória prior to moving to Benfica in May.

Sheffield Wednesday are hoping to add a striker or two to their squad this summer as they look to do better in the Championship next season. The Owls had a poor campaign in comparison to the previous two where they got to the Play-Offs both times.

The Owls boss, Jos Luhukay, is looking to bring in his own types of players and really put his own stamp on his squad. He steadied the ship at Hillsborough after a difficult start for him and now the ex-Hertha Berlin and Stuttgart manager wants to show the fans what he can do.

The signing of Joao Amarel would be an interesting one for the Owls and it will be intriguing to see how he would get on in the Championship.
