Benik Afobe becomes Stoke City’s second signing of the summer transfer window, as confirmed by their club website.
The 25-year-old striker has moved to the bet365 Stadium from Premier League Wolves on a six-month loan but with an option to buy him for an undisclosed fee in the January transfer window.
The striker spent the second half of last season on loan at Wolves from Bournemouth and netted six times as Wolves stormed to the Championship title.
Although, he completed a permanent switch to the Premier League side earlier this month, Stoke have swooped in for a deal for him to be the second player to secure a move to the club since Gary Rowett’s arrival, following the signing of Nigeria World Cup midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo.
Manager Gary Rowett added: “If there’s one signing you want to make to get you out of the Championship Benik is that kind of player.”
“The Club have worked incredibly hard to make the signings of Benik and Etebo happen and I think it shows how quickly we want to hit the ground running and the type of players we want to bring to the Club. Getting those two in the building is a fantastic start.”
Chief Executive Tony Scholes said: “Benik’s pedigree speaks for itself and he’s joining us at a time when he’s full of confidence having played a key role in helping Wolves secure promotion to the Premier League.”
“He will be an excellent addition to our squad as we look to secure a return to the Premier League as soon as possible.”
Afobe began his career with Arsenal and after a string of loan spells he joined Wolves, for the first time in 2015 and netted 22 goals in 46 appearances, this led Bournemouth to pay £10 million for his services a year later.
