Former Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn is the bookmakers favourite to become the next manager of Sky Bet League Two side Oldham Athletic.
Bet Victor have made Redfearn odds on favourite to take the job at the North West club, giving him odds of 1/2 to become their new manager.
Oldham sacked their manager Richie Wellens last week (June 08) after the 38-year-old failed to help the Latics survive in Sky Bet League One.
A 2-2 draw at already relegated Northampton Town, combined with Rochdale’s final day victory over Charlton Athletic saw Oldham relegated to the fourth tier of English football, and consequently cost Wellens his job.
In a club statement on the website, the owners of the club said: “While he was unable to guide us to safety after being appointed, it certainly wasn’t due to a lack of professionalism and dedication on his part.”
“The club will look to appoint a new manager as soon as possible and will be making no further comment at this time.”
And it seems that they could be closing in on the appointment of the new manager with Redfearn poised to take over.
The 52-year-old is currently in charge of Doncaster Rovers Belles, but it’s fair to say he was given plenty of chances at Elland Road.
He enjoyed three spells as their caretaker manager in 2012, 2013 and 2014, before being given the job on a permanent basis in October 2014. However, he only lasted until the end of the season, when he returned to his role in the club’s academy.
