Leeds United agree financial terms with potential new manager

Leeds United’s search for a new manager has been going on for over a week now following the departure of Paul Heckingbottom.

Heckingbottom left Elland Road on June 01 after failing to turn around the club’s fortunes, despite having been appointed as little as three months ago.

The former Barnsley boss took over from Spanish manager Thomas Christiansen, who had failed to deliver on the pre-season expectations.

Italian owner Andrea Radrizzani had targeted a top six finish after completing his takeover of the Whites last summer, and despite an excellent start to the season, Leeds could only finish 13th, and both Christiansen and Heckingbottom have paid the price for this.

Leeds have made it no secret whatsoever who their number one target is. They want Argentinian boss Marcelo Bielsa to take over at Elland Road, and Victor Orta has been in South America for a week or so now trying to negotiate a deal.

And it appears that today they have made a breakthrough, with the former Athletic Bilbao and Marseille manager reportedly agreeing a deal with regards to the amount that Leeds United will pay him to become their new boss.

This was confirmed on Twitter by Phil Hay, who writes about Leeds United for the Yorkshire Evening Post. Here is a look at his tweet:

He stated that money is not an issue for Bielsa, and that the Argentinian has agreed financial terms with the club, but there are still a few other issues that need ironing out.

Leeds United fans will be hoping that the club hurry up with the appointment of Bielsa, with the players due back for pre-season training in a matter of weeks.
