Middlesbrough express interest in Norwich City midfielder

Middlesbrough are reportedly keen on Norwich City winger Josh Murphy, according to the Derby Telegraph.

Josh Murphy scored 11 goals for Norwich last season, and a number of clubs are showing an interest in the midfielder.

Championship side Middlesbrough, and Premier League duo Brighton and Hove Albion and Fulham are all keen on acquiring the England Under-21 international for the forthcoming season.

Fellow newly-promoted side Cardiff City have also been linked and were reportedly close to completing a deal for Murphy. However, with more and more clubs linked, Norwich may hold out to see which side can offer the best deal.

With plenty of speculation surrounding Middlesbrough’s Adama Traore, Boro could be in the market for a winger with Championship experience, and Murphy would certainly offer that.

Middlesbrough finished the season in fifth position, and were defeated in the Play Off semi-final by Aston Villa. Boro were the lowest scorers in the top six, and the addition of someone of Murphy’s calibre would help by adding goals from midfield.

Josh’s brother Jacob interestingly plays for Middlesbrough’s rivals Newcastle United, after moving from Carrow Road in 2017, and Josh may want to move to the Premier League to play opposite his twin brother at the top level.

Murphy has been at the club since 2006 when he was aged 11, and has been sent out on loan to Wigan and MK Dons in the past. However, he nailed down a starting spot last year for Daniel Farke’s side and impressed for the Canaries throughout the season.
