Highly sought after Leeds starlet pens new four-year-deal

Leeds fans will be delighted to hear that the club have today confirmed young England under 21 left-back Tom Pearce has signed a four-year deal with the club.

The deal became extremely complicated when both Everton and Bournemouth tried to sign the player with his contract at Elland Road coming to an end. Pearce was due to be released by the football club during the season but head-coach Paul Heckingbottom decided he was worth a shot in the first-team. After some impressive displays he was offered a new deal and after much negotiating he has signed a long-term deal.

Pearce made his debut at home tin Sheffield Wednesday in the 1-2 defeat but it was after that he really made an impact, nailing down the left-back spot and scoring his first goal for the club in the win over Yorkshire rivals Barnsley. Pearce was then called up to the England under 21 squad along with Ronaldo Vieira where the pair have helped take England all the way to the final.

As Leeds prepared to offer the youngster a new deal the Premier League clubs began to show interest, the fees involved in a deal would be extremely low given the amount of first-team football Pearce has played and his age. Going to tribunals isn’t ideal for anyone and the fact that Pearce has now penned a new deal is great for the football club. Losing youngsters to Premier League clubs is standard in recent history so this was one the club didn’t want to lose out on.

Leeds were hoping to make an announcement on a new head-coach this week but the days are running by without news.

I will have more on this later with an article on my thoughts regarding how important this deal was for the club.
