The Pink Un understands that Norwich City are closing in on the signing of Getafe playmaker Emiliano Buendia. The player impressed whilst on loan in the Spanish second tier with Cultural Leonesa last season, and is set for a move into the Sky Bet Championship.
This would come as a blow to Leeds United, who have been heavily linked with the player. Buendia is a Argentinian compatriot of Marcelo Bielsa, with the former Marseille and Athletic Bilbao head coach said to be closing in on a deal to become the next Leeds boss. Swansea City, now managed by Graham Potter, are also set to admit defeat in their chase of the highly-rated 21-year-old.
Buendia won the Player of the Year Award during his time on loan at Leonesa. Whilst they were relegated, he was certainly a shining light in what was a tough first season at that level for the club. Parent club Getafe are seemingly happy for him to depart the La Liga club permanently this summer. Norwich are set to pay £1.5million for his services, but Daniel Farke seemingly a big fan of the player. Interestingly, he is deemed a similar type of player to James Maddison, who has been touted with a move away from the Canaries.
He had previously been linked to Leeds firstly in the previous January transfer window. Therefore, he has been a club target, as opposed to just an interested party for Bielsa, who of course has only recently been linked with the job at Elland Road. Buendia has previously been on the books of Real Madrid, clearly indicating his talent.
